Systems & Platform Engineer

I scale systems
from 1 to

I find the bottleneck, cut the bill, and make reliability boring for systems that have outgrown their architecture.

Systems I've scaled at
  • Amazon
  • SambaNova
  • Gojek
  • Paytm
  • FareHarbor

What I fix

Systems that groan under growth
are my favorite kind.

Scaling & bottleneck audits

Where does it break at 10×? I profile the real system, not the diagram, and find the constraint before production does.

Infrastructure cost reduction

Same throughput, smaller bill. Right-sizing, caching strategy, and retiring the workloads nobody ever profiled.

Latency & efficiency

P99s tamed. Hot paths measured, rewritten, and kept fast with performance budgets that survive the next quarter.

SaaS → self-hosted OSS

Replace six-figure SaaS contracts with boring, reliable open source you own, migrated without losing a weekend of data.

Observability & incident readiness

Systems that tell you what is wrong: metrics that matter, alerts that fire once, runbooks that work at 2 a.m.

Architecture & design review

A second pair of staff-level eyes before the big rewrite, the big launch, or the big migration.

War stories

Proof, not promises.

01

Serving 1.6M TPS without flinching

Amazon

Problem

Amazon Hub needed deep, per-seller delivery-eligibility checks inside the hottest paths in e-commerce: the detail page at 1.6M TPS and checkout at 500K TPS. A single slow call there is a global incident.

Move

Precomputed eligibility, pushed decisions to the edges of the call graph, and designed the checks to degrade gracefully instead of failing loudly.

Result

100% coverage of eligible SKUs for self-ship sellers, with no measurable latency added to checkout. That unlocked an expansion projected at $7.6B in GMS.

02

The $250K haircut

Gojek

Problem

Thousands of VMs on end-of-life Ubuntu, an extended-security bill about to land, and no safe way to move a fleet that big.

Move

Built “Versioned Infrastructure”: reproducible, versioned VM images that turned risky migrations into routine rollouts.

Result

1,000+ VMs migrated from 16.04 to 20.04 with zero downtime, and $250K/year in support costs gone.

03

A platform for a trillion parameters

SambaNova

Problem

Enterprise customers wanted models bigger than any single deployment could serve, with hard isolation between tenants sharing the same platform.

Move

Led Composition of Experts to run 1T+ parameter composite models, and architected platform-wide multi-tenancy and RBAC underneath it.

Result

An industry-first capability in production, and the isolation guarantees that helped land clients like Accenture and Analog Devices.

04

Two percent, at national scale

Paytm

Problem

Card payments were failing on opaque, inconsistently handled bank response codes. At gateway scale, every fraction of a percent is real money.

Move

Rebuilt response-code handling across every payment channel (VISA, MasterCard, net-banking) into one coherent decision layer.

Result

+2% card-transaction success rate. At national payment volume, that is millions of recovered transactions.

How I work

01

Measure first

No guessing. Profiles, traces, and load tests before opinions. The bottleneck is rarely where it hurts.

02

Fix the constraint

One change that moves the number beats ten that feel productive. Ship it, measure again, repeat.

03

Make it boring

Dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and a team that owns it. A system is only fixed when nobody thinks about it.

What people say

Aman found in two weeks what our team had chased for two quarters. The infra bill dropped 40% and the paging stopped.

The rare engineer who is equally comfortable in a P99 flamegraph and a boardroom cost review. Our systems are calmer for it.

About

The engineer teams call
when growth starts to hurt.

I'm Aman, a systems and platform engineer with eight years across payments, developer platforms, e-commerce, ML infrastructure, and travel tech. I've carried a pager for national-scale payment gateways, built the internal platform thousands of engineers shipped on, extended the hottest path in e-commerce without adding a millisecond, and helped build the platform serving some of the fastest AI inference in the industry. These days I'm at FareHarbor, a Booking.com company, scaling travel tech to its next million with AI.

The pattern in all of it: systems fail at scale in predictable ways, and most teams meet those failures for the first time. I've usually met them before. That's the difference I bring. Not more effort, but a shorter path to the constraint that actually matters.

Off the clock I run my own production-grade infrastructure (CI/CD, edge proxy, observability, the works) because the best way to stay honest about operational advice is to live with your own.
